What if I was on my period?You may still get pregnant; sperm can live up to seven days inside the vagina, most often if fertile cervical fluid is present.

But, I didn’t have an orgasm?It would seem logical that an orgasm would increase your fertility, since it is usually associated with increased blood flow and lubrication - but the simple fact is that sperm don’t need an orgasm to easily travel through the vagina.If you think about it, orgasm cannot be the cause of ovulation; if it was, then women wouldn’t get their periods each month (which happens with or without orgasm). What if I was on top?Gravity does not affect in the slightest the ability of sperm to travel through your vagina and reach an egg.It makes no difference if you were on top - it is possible to become pregnant as long as ejaculation occurs within or near the vagina.

What happens if I was a virgin?Although some people believe otherwise, be certain that even if it was your first time - and even taking into consideration that your hymen was intact - you can still get pregnant. If there is a fertile egg and sperm have a chance to travel to it, pregnancy can occur.

The sperm was exposed to air - what happens nwo?Air is not what kills sperm; the sperm cells need to be kept moist in order to survive.Sperm can survive as long as it is moist, even if it is not inside the body, as what kills the sperm cells is not air in and of itself; rather, it is becoming dry.

Should I worry about sperm in a hot tub or pool?For some people, the idea of being in a pool or hot tub that a man may have ejaculated in is a cause for concern.In this case, you don’t have to worry - the pool’s chlorine and the hot tub’s high temperature will kill any sperm cells on contact.

What if we have sex in the water, like a pool, hot tub, or shower.? YES.If you have sexual intercourse, and there is penetration, there is a risk for pregnancy, as the sperm have the same access to your vaginal canal and egg as they would if you were having intercourse in a bed.

What can I do if I don’t want to become pregnant?

If you want to try to avoid becoming pregnant, it is important to keep ejaculate away from the woman’s body, especially in the area below the bellybutton and above the thighs. Remember, sperm can survive for days, both in and outside the vagina.

And, of course, using protection (condoms) and/or birth control is probably the best thing you can do to be able to enjoy your sex life to the fullest, and have peace of mind, too.
