Grounds For Complaining About Your Solicitor

Times have changed now as solicitors who could pretty much get away with anything are now finding they can not! This article looks and discusses exactly what you should do if you have the grounds to complain about your solicitor.

Naivity leaves people, all too often believing that solicitors will only ever give us the very best service. I believe we think this because they are trained professionals in this area. If you feel that this has just described your attitude towards solicitors, it’s definitely time to give yourself a good shake and to wake up and smell the coffee!

Unfortunately, in reality, there are a lot of firms of solicitors that will not offer you anything like such a good level of service. They will rest on the laurels, safe in the knowledge that they know the applicable law, but you don’t, and that you won’t usually question them. Besides which, they did not think you would have the guts to actually make a complaint.  So go ahead and shock them; complain about a solicitor if the need arises.

These attitudes, are changing slowly, thankfully. People appreciate the vast sums of money they are required to hand over to such firms of solicitors and they want a lot more in return, than they once had. Gone are the days where they will trust anything their solicitor says to them. Being charged for something by a solicitor that was totally unfair, is something that clients are finding the voice to speak up about these days.

Complain about a solicitor on the grounds as seen below:

? Where your solicitor has failed to undertake the work you had agreed
? Where they have failed to provide you with adequate information relating to your bill
Delays which they have involved you in which could be seen to be unreasonable
If the information given to you was inaccurate or incomplete
? Lack of communication and failure to inform you of the progress of your case

If you feel that you have a valid complaint against your solicitor, in the first instance you should raise this with a more senior partner within the firm itself. Once you have exhausted this process, you are then welcome to approach the Legal Complaints Service, which is an organisation run through the Law Society. A solicitor can be forced to reolve the case in your favour if this body assess your case and uphold it.

Do your homework and research the company you wish to instruct thoroughly. This ensures that the eventuality never comes around in the first place. To best facilitate this, why not log on to a site which contains reviews of the solicitors in your area? Poor level of service is no longer acceptable as this way previous clients are giving future clients plenty of warning of the poor level of service they have received; as they shout it from the rooftops. Solicitor.info is one such example of a site and you will not regret checking this out first.  Rate a solicitor and help other people to find those firms out their who offer a good service.
